Lily waiting to catch me at the bottom of the hill
Here's Drew (one of our Lifelines guys)
Some of our Lifelines girls going through (and under) the rapids!
April is canoe racing season in our part of Maine. Joe really enjoys these races, but his partner had to cancel for the first one so instead the four of us went as spectators to watch. We did have a number of our Lifelines students race and Joe took them out the day before in the cold and wet weather to do a little whitewater canoeing training. So it was really fun for us to go watch them and cheer them on. And Joe was also able to help two of our Lifelines women who flipped over and briefly lost our canoe (yes, our canoe, they were borrowing it) downstream! They were fine and everybody did great the rest of the race. And I have to say that Lily had a blast. We got there a bit early (and then the race started late) so we had quite a bit of time before the boats started coming down. Thankfully there was a little hill and Lily was entertained for quite some time just running up and down the hill. She thought it was quite funny to run down the hill and towards the bottom just leap so that I would catch her. And she also wanted me to run down the hill and jump so that she could catch me too!:) And while this was very entertaining once the boats started coming down her eyes never left the water. She LOVED watching the canoes go through the rapids! And Joe is already looking forward to the day that we can race in the father/daughter and mother/son classes!
